At Columbus Literate Community Program, Inc., also known as Literacy Alliance, we believe that literacy is the foundation for a thriving community. Since our inception in 1990, we have been dedicated to increasing literacy levels across the Chattahoochee Valley, transforming lives and empowering individuals to reach their full potential.

As part of the state-wide Certified Literate Community Program (CLCP), Literacy Alliance was the first community in Georgia to achieve certification as a “Literate Community.” This milestone reflects our commitment to fostering a culture of literacy through collaborative efforts. In the fall of 2021, we proudly achieved recertification, reaffirming our status as leaders in literacy advancement under the guidance of Brandy Tolbert and a dedicated team of volunteers.

Our programs cater to diverse literacy needs, focusing on:

• Adult Literacy: We help under-educated adults enhance their reading and math skills, paving the way for self-sufficiency. By connecting participants with community resources, we help remove barriers that hinder success and support personal goal achievement.
• Early Literacy: Through initiatives like Kindergarten Readiness and Let’s Read Muscogee, we promote foundational skills for young learners. Our outreach efforts aim to increase vocabulary awareness and ensure grade-level reading.
• Family Literacy: Recognizing the importance of a holistic approach, we offer workshops and resources to parents, enabling them to support their children’s development while enhancing their own literacy skills.
• Community Engagement: In 2022, we launched the Community Book Nook program to ensure that quality reading materials are accessible to all families. Our family workshops throughout the year further foster a love for reading and learning.
